Designed by British designer Rodney Kinsman for his company OMK, the T2 armchair reflects the era’s “high-tech” design movement, where visible structure and functional engineering were celebrated rather than hidden. The chair features a bold polished tubular chrome steel frame with clean, geometric lines, supporting generously padded leather cushions that appear to float within the structure. The seat is typically suspended on a webbed or sling base, giving a slight bounce and relaxed sit.
The design balances contrast: the cool, rigid chrome frame against soft, upholstered leather cushions. Low and wide in proportion, the T2 was intended as a comfortable lounge chair suitable for both domestic interiors and modern commercial spaces. Its open frame also gives it a light, architectural presence, making it visually striking from every angle.
Produced around 1969–early 1970s, the T2 has become a sought-after collector’s piece and is associated with the influential British design scene of the period, including the early Habitat-era modern interiors movement.
In a pair, these chairs are especially desirable as they create a strong symmetrical statement while retaining the minimal, industrial elegance characteristic of Kinsman’s work.
